After a long day of driving with sometimes bumper to bumper traffic, we waited patiently in line at the last toll booth to get to the beach. The fee was $3.50 and the line of cars moved fairly quickly due to ALL lanes being open! When we got to the toll booth, the attendant waved us on and said the car in front of us had paid our toll! What a wonderful way to begin a vacation weekend! We didn’t know who they were, but their random act of kindness touched us and put us in a wonderful frame of mind. Since that incident I’ve been looking for ways to “pass it on” and am having so much fun imagining what kind of a difference I might make in a stranger’s day with such a random act of kindness.
This card is the perfect act of kindness and would be lovingly appreciated by it’s recipient. The details show it is made with love! This is just one creation of the many possibilities in the Jar of Love Stamp Set. The summery colors and sweet flowers kept me smiling and I truly enjoyed making this card! Here’s how.
Start with an orange card base in Calypso Coral cardstock measuring 5 1/2″ x 4 1/4″. Adhere a 5 ” x 3 3/4″ rectangle of Wild Wasabi cardstock to the card front with Fast Fuse or score tape. Cut a 4 3/4″ x 3 1/2″ rectangle of whisper white and stamp the large jar from SU’s Jar of Love stamp set about 1/4″ from the bottom of the cardstock. I used Memento Black Ink to stamp the jar. Stamp water in your jar with Pool Party ink then stamp stems and leaves as shown with Wild Wasabi green ink.
The orange flowers were stamped with 3 layers. I used Calypso Coral, Peekaboo Peach, and Watermelon Wonder in different combinations until I found a few that I liked. The blue flowers were stamped in 2 layers using Pool Party and Tempting Turquoise inks. All flowers were cut using the coordinating Everyday Jars Framelit Dies on the Big Shot Machine. You could also cut them by hand if you don’t have a Big Shot.
Next comes the jar lid. Use an Embossing Buddy to wipe a piece of Delightful Dijon (goldish cardstock). Stamp the jar lid using Versa Mark Ink on the Dijon paper then immediately sprinkle with gold embossing powder. Use an embossing heat gun to set the embossing, then cut out the jar lid using the framelit die. Wrap the jar lid with linen thread and tie in a bow, attaching the tiny tag. The tag is cut by hand from a small rectangle and stamped with the FOR YOU sentiment in Pool Party ink.
Use Stampin’ Dimensionals (pop dots) to attach the flowers and lid to the jar, matching flowers to stems as much as possible. Finally, use a few watercolor brush strokes around the bottom of the jar to give the impression of a table top. I used the largest Aqua Painter brush with a touch of Tip Top Taupe ink.
On the inside of the card, stamp the sentiment and embellish with an extra bloom. Now surprise someone special with a handmade birthday remembrance filled with love!
I plan to use this card for someone who wouldn’t expect a card from me. I will continue to spread acts of kindness to others in honor of the anonymous driver who so graciously did the same for us. I hope you’ll join me as the world could certainly use a little extra kindness these days!
