Do you wonder what teachers really want? As an administrator on an elementary school campus, I enjoyed making something special for the teachers each year as a welcome back gift. It was also a thank you for the many hours of inservice they had to endure the week before school started when they really wanted to be getting their rooms ready! There were coffee mugs, notebooks, spirals, etc. but the favorite all time teacher gift was…..drum roll…… the clipboard!! After 5 years I still see teachers carrying them! It’s the quintessential “go to” for a remembrance teachers actually use! I still have mine and use it for workshop sign-ups for my Stampin’ Up business. They’re inexpensive, personal, and fun to make. Here’s how.
You can use any clipboard – this one is the old fashioned wooden kind. Cut paper to cover the front of the clipboard. I used 3 different papers so applied three paper sections to cover this board. Apply the paper by “painting” the front of the clipboard with Modge Podge. Lay the paper on the wet Modge Podge covered clipboard, then paint another layer of Modge Podge on top. A sponge brush or paint brush works well for this task. I added a special quote – again using Modge Podge to attach it. The clip on the clipboard was embellished by tying ribbon strips through the clip holes. Then I added scrabble stickers with the teachers’ initials and a flower was glue dotted onto the clip. You can add a ribbon with a pen attached if you want to make it really convenient! Ta-da! You’re done!
I can promise you this clipboard is a gift that will be appreciated and used frequently! Stampin’ Up has a Designer Series Paper called Schoolhouse that would be perfect for this! Please visit my online store if you need supplies that I can help with.
