Mother’s Day Card – Bear Hugs!

Mother’s Day Card Sends a Bear Hug!

There’s nothing better than a big hug from your mother!  I lost my mother earlier this year and that is the thing I miss the most.  Mother’s Day will be a tough one for me, and I know many of you share the same situation. That’s a hurt that will never go away but I’m guessing gets easier to live with in time.  OK, enough tears!  But there are special mothers (daughter in law, sister in law, friends, aunts) still in my life that I want to honor this Mother’s Day.  So here’s a big momma bear hug in a card you can make with love for a special mother in your life!

I started with a Melon Mambo card base 4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″.  The second layer is a rectangle cut 3 3/4″ x 5 1/2″ from English Garden Designer Series Paper.  Center it on the card front and adhere with Fast Fuse or Tear and Tape.  Glue lace (Venetian Crochet Trim) to the edges of the flowered paper on both sides.

The tag is made from a 2 3/4″ x 5″ rectangle of a smaller flower pattern.  Punch the top of the tag with the Tag Topper Punch.  The next layer goes on top of the tag.  It is a  2 1/2″ x 3 1/2″ rectangle of Melon Mambo. The final layer for the tag is cut from a 2″ x 3 1/4″ rectangle of white corrugated paper.  Adhere with tape runner.

Stamp the momma bear twice on pink paper with Melon Mambo ink.  Stamp the baby bear once.  Use the Bear Hugs framelit dies to cut out all three bears (or fussy cut by hand).  Cut off the arms of momma bear on one of the stamped images (I know – that sounds terrible!).  Stamp momma bear’s paws and arms on the back of the second stamped momma bear’s arms and paws. Cut off baby bear’s arms (I know…I know!)  Use Stampin’ Dimensionals to attach the complete momma bear on top of the armless one.  Tuck baby bear inside momma’s arms and secure with a glue dot.  Punch a small heart from pink glimmer paper and attach it to momma bear’s paws with a small glue dot.  Now adhere momma and baby bear to the white corrugated tag piece with glue dots.

Make the sentiment banner.  Stamp sentiment “THANKS TO YOU I GREW UP LOVED” on white cardstock in Melon Mambo ink.  Cut in banner shape.  Cut larger banner shape out of pink glimmer paper.  Attach sentiment banner to top with glue dots.  Punch hole in corner and thread through silver cording.  Tie pink seam binding ribbon to the top of the tag.  Tie a bow around the ribbon with silver cording holding the sentiment banner.

I used the striped pattern from the English Garden DSP to cut out an envelope liner with the large envelope liner framelit (NO NAKED ENVELOPES!)  Attach to inside of envelope with tape runner.  Finish your card with a personal note of appreciation for all the hugs and love!

Happy Mother’s Day to Mother’s everywhere!
