Taking a Card From Basic to Bling

I am getting carried away with the new Designer Tin of Cards!  I love card kits!  They are easy, fast, and all the hard work has been done for you, including cutting out pieces, color coordination, and design.  But if you know me – there’s always something I want to tweak!  I love adding my own touch and spicing up a card with a little something extra.  That’s what I’ve been doing with this card kit.  There are 4 card designs with enough product to make 4 of each card.  So I made one card from each design according to directions, a second card using only materials in the kit, and then blinged up the rest!    Each card design in the kit comes from one of the coordinating suites from the new Stampin’ Up Catalog.  This card uses paper designs from the Affectionately Yours Designer Series Paper Series.

Original Kit Design

The original design from the kit directions is beautiful on its own.  It uses 2 patterned papers, 2 flower die cuts (you just punch them out), a gold rimmed label, gold striped washi tape, white baker’s twine, a gold mini paper clip, and 2 sizes of gold sequins.  This card was made according to the step by step directions provided in the kit and went together fairly quickly.  The hardest part is putting on the sequins!  I found that small glue dots were the perfect fit and went on easily when I put the sequin on the dot before peeling it off it’s backing.

Kit Supplies Only

The second card uses only the materials supplied in the kit.  Of course, I added more of everything – stamping, washi tape, and sequins and did a bit of rearranging.  If you are a “more is not enough” crafter, you might like this alternative version for some of your cards.

Full Bling

The final design shows full bling!  I turned the card horizontally and pulled from my goodie stash from my new catalog order!  So many choices!  I started with a 2″ banner of the large flowered paper from the Affectionately Yours DSP.  It has a gorgeous copper accent on it that actually goes well with the gold from the label.  I tucked  one of the new colored doilies behind the label.  I found the greens in Cucumber Crush and Emerald Envy actually “go” together even though they don’t match.  If you’re a “What Not to Wear” fan you can still hear Stacy and Clinton say “they don’t have to match – they just have to go together!”    I’d been waiting for a chance to use the delicious new striped ribbon and it was the perfect embellishment for the bottom of the tag.  I topped it off with some yellow enamel dots (my new favorite thing) and a little gold cording to tie up the ribbon ends.  Don’t forget – no naked envelopes!  The washi tape from the Affectionately Yours Suite matches the striped ribbon exactly so I ran a strip of it across the bottom of the envelope.  Then I stamped the 3 dotted lines from the stamp set on the center of the envelope but REALLY MESSED IT UP!  No worries!  The decorative label punch to the rescue!  I punched a label from the DSP pack that matched the card and adhered it over my OOPS!  So suite!!!  You’ll love all the ways you can use the Designer Tin of Cards Kit!  Plus you have that cute tin with dividers to store your cards or give as a gift.  Check back for the next post – 2 cards left to tweak!
